We were personally stung with "Bill Shock" of $348 last month. Upgrading us to a slightler higher plan "mid billing cycle" seems like a GLARINGLY OBVIOUS solution to us - but not to the Telco. Instead - we spent 1.5hrs of our holiday on a chat support page discussing the problem with some powerless outsourced overseas admin assistant come complaints department staff member. Reasoning with them failed and compromise was not in their vocabulary so we begrudgingly paid the excessive bill and now have no faith or loyalty in our "O" Telco. We then upgraded our second phone plan to help counter any future bill shock. We now plan to carefully milk each month for what its worth - then ditch our telco as soon as practical. We upgraded our Mobile Phone and Plan the other day. VERY HAPPY. We origianlly had a Samsung Flip Phone and an old expired Telstra deal. We always went over the allocated call limit and data was pointless on such a limited phone. ANYWAY! We upgraded to the SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB running on the Andoid 2.2 Operating system and an Optus $49 cap. There was also an additional $15 monthly fee to buy the phone outright over 2yrs but that's ok because it still works out about $25 per month cheaper than our previous arrangement - and now we have a truly portable Intenet/Mobile phone ready Tablet too! We hope to upgrade another staff members phone and plan in the New Year so will keep you posted of further developments.

Telstra offering "unlimited" wireless broadband for fleet purchasers of Ultimate USB modems.

The newly released $299 Ultimate USB modem took advantage of a dual channel HSPA+ upgrade to the Next G network to offer a maximum download speed of 20.1Mbps. The dual-channel system had been installed in all major capitals and a number of regional centres, with Telstra estimating that 50 percent of the Australian population had access to the upgraded network. "We're achieving office-like speeds now in these remote locations," Telstra executive director enterprise and government John Paitaridis said. While the entry-level business plan for the device offered 6 GB of data a month for $69, Telstra was also offering an "unlimited" plan (with a fair use restriction of around 120 GB a month) to government and enterprise fleet buyers of the device. Paitaridis declined to specify what size of purchase would be required to qualify for that plan, but said it would be in the "hundreds" of users. The new speeds could make Next G a potential element to plans to expand national broadband coverage through wireless networks, but Paitaridis said it would not work as the sole solution. The heavy lifting would always be done by fixed networks, he said. Telstra had begun selling its initial allocation of 2,000 modems through its enterprise account managers, and would begin selling it through Telstra retail outlets from October 5. At that time, it would begin phasing out its current top-of-line business USB modem, the Elite.

the Google Chrome operating system tablet MIGHT be launching on November 26, 2010. On August 18th 2010, Stuff TV published an article stating that Google has been quietly building a Chrome OS tablet and plan to release it shortly before Christmas. Further sources of this information come from Download Squad, whose undisclosed source says the HTC-built slate will be a Verizon exclusive when it launches in the USA the day after Thanksgiving. Rumoured specifications include: Nvidia’s Tegra 2 platform, a 1280x720 multitouch display, 2GB RAM and at least 32GB of solid-state storage, Webcam, Wi-Fi, GPS, plus 3G as standard. A neat stop-gap alternative to a mobile phone (or laptop) might be a wireless HOTSPOT enabled NETBOOK. We recently purchased an Asus eeePC Netbook. The model came with a SOLID STATE HARD DRIVE - perfect for carrying using while out and about. Very light and very portable and very quick to startup and shutdown. We have found it to be MUCH more convenient than lugging around the laptop. Most netbooks come with Internet Based CALL SOFTWARE pre-installed, and some very nice WEB BASED APPLICATIONS too. Our netbook was also configured to automatically log onto the first available unsecured wireless hotspot, this usually being a Cafe's and Shopping Centres. In short - this product had us hitting the ground running at just a fraction over $200 AUD. The convergence between mobile phones and laptops is almost there.

Hi everybody - do you like going on plans? I don't. Telstra has recently offered "The Carrot & The Stick" once more. They have recently dropped the price of their wireless internet. THE CATCH is that you have to sign up for a 2 year contract (Tisk Tisk). I am sure I would like the service and probably remain with them for more than 2 years - however there is something that really narks me about being cohersed into a contract through these inducements. Why don't they simply offer a great product and let the users decide if Telstra is good enough? Any thoughts on the matter?

We recently purchased a Telstra Next G wirelss mobile device. It comes with Pre-Paid credit, which suits our needs. Its fast and reliable. It's pricey, but you can let the credit lapse for up to 6 months and renew your credit for 1 month while you do business on the road. One big complaint I had, was the lack of information given to agents about the recharge description. Four separate retailers did not know which EFTPOS description to purchase the NEXT G recharge credit under. I was also equally dissappointed when they asked me to phone the 1300 number to find out (Lack of initiative on their part). Surely agents should be better equipped to sell you a recharge credit for the device you just purchased. Anyway - I eventually yielded to the system and visited my local Telstra shop who promptly sold me the recahrge credit I required (It's Mobile credit in case you were wondering). I might add though - the Telstra Agent did not seem particularly interested in my efforts with the lack lustre agents either. What's the world coming too? Under-paid Zombie shop Assistants? Ever seen Shawn of the Dead the Movie?

Selling to the Disabled

A mildly intellectually disabled woman recently went into a local Telstra shop to enquire about "No Plan" mobile phones. She was easily talked into a plan instead. The salesman then phoned the husband and asked him to provide his details over the phone so that the plan could be placed in the husbands name. I don't know about you, but it makes me wonder WHY the salesman might have done that. Could it be that they didn't what to get in trouble for selling a contract to a mildly intellectually disabled person? If the sale is that important to the salesman he should have gotten the husband to come into the store and fully explained the contract first. Needless to say - a few days later, when the couple both realised exactly what they had been sold, they went to the trouble of cancelling the contract. I am still waiting to hear the final outcome of this one. My suggestion to the salesman - It's not worth it so why risk your reputation and your job. Your comments?

Telstra $49 plan?

We are on a $49 Telstra Mobile Plan, with up to $230 worth of calls, but if we log into the site and review our account it looks like we are being charged $52.22. This figure seems to have been plucked out of thin air. Trying to understand how much call credit we have used and have remaining is impossible also. Come on guys! what are you doing?
